Title: Child-Rearing: A Tough But Rewarding Business
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Burt Hummel just wants to help his kid. Isn’t that what any parent wants?
A/N: The first thing I’ve written for Glee in months. Under a Read More ‘cause it’s almost 2,000 words.
*happy grin*
I squealed when this happened. Loudly.
here come the tears,
But remember how Kurt was dancing Single Ladies the first time we ever saw Burt onscreen
And now Burt’s there between Tina and Brittany and it’s all full circle
And they have two new family members and everybody loves everybody
And Burt knows Kurt’s boyfriend because Kurt came out to him after he saw him dancing Single Ladies and everything was okay and stuff and stuff
And jwnr;msadlksf

Burt is the best dad ever!

Listen, I am so happy for you, Kurt. Really, I am so happy and I am so proud. You know, you and me… we made each other men.
The first time Blaine calls Burt “dad” is a complete accident.
He’s helping him out in the shop like he has every Thursday since Kurt left for New York. They’re talking about Sectionals as they’re coming up soon and Blaine is irrationally nervous about them.
“It’s just that I haven’t been in a show choir competition without him since my freshman year…” says Blaine trailing off, feeling foolish for speaking his thoughts out loud. Burt smiles sadly and places a comforting hand on his shoulder.
“You’re going to be amazing, kiddo,” he says earnestly. “You’ve got an amazing talent and I have no doubt that you’re going to use it to the best you can. You know that Kurt would be there if he could right?”
Blaine nods, tears silently beginning to fall from his eyes and Burt pulls him into a tight hug.
“I just miss him so much sometimes it hurts,” says Blaine, feeling completely stupid for breaking down like this.
“Me too, kiddo. Me too.”
Blaine realizes by the shake in his voice that he’s also crying and he tightens the hug for a moment before pulling away, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand.
“Thanks, Dad,” he says without thinking and his cheeks immediately fill with colour. Burt is looking at him completely surprised.
“Blaine, did you just call me -“
“I didn’t mean to, Burt, honestly. I don’t know what came over me. Oh god, I’m so sorry…”
To Blaine’s surprise, Burt grins widely.
“I didn’t mind it,” he says. “I feel kinda honored that you would want to call me that. Besides, you’re practically my third son and I honestly love you as one.”
“R-really?” asks Blaine, not sure what else to say.
“Yeah,” says Burt, clapping him on the shoulder. “Welcome to the family, kiddo.”
With that, he walks out of the workshop into the office, leaving behind a confused and grateful Blaine.
He calls Burt dad all the time after that and while it becomes a natural part of their relationship, Blaine never forgets Burt’s reaction the first time and how it finally felt to have a father.
“I’m gonna miss you, Kurt. A lot.”
“I’m gonna miss you too, dad.”
#blaine is so much like burt in so many ways #loved seeing them paralleled in this ep #kurt’s most important men
Kurt looks so sad ;__;
